Temporary employment of Sri Lankan labour in the State of Israel
Approval was granted by the Cabinet of Ministers at the cabinet meeting held on 05-02-2020 to sign an agreement between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of Israel for the temporary employment of Sri Lankan workers in specific labor market sectors in the State of Israel.
Accordingly, the implementation plans (Protocols A, B, C, D, E,, and F) for the recruitment of workers in the sectors of domestic care, agriculture, construction, hotels, housekeeping, cleaning services, manufacturing, and catering services have been signed from time to time. Under the aforementioned agreement, the
Government of Israel has officially expressed its willingness to recruit Sri Lankan workers for employment in the commercial and service sectors in Israel.
Accordingly, the consensus of the Cabinet of Ministers has
been given to the provisions taken by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism to sign the ‘G’ protocol under the agreement already signed between the two parties which will enable the employment of Sri Lankan workers under that sector.

Deputy Minister inspects ‘Viyawasaya Super Fair 2025’ in Kalutara
Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe, together with Kalutara District MPs Nandana Pathma Kumara and Oshani Umanga, visited the ‘Viyawasaya Super Fair – 2025’ held at the Kalutara District Secretariat premises last week.
The trade exhibition, jointly organised by the Kalutara District Small Scale Industry Development Board and the Kalutara District Secretariat, featured more than 100 stalls showcasing products manufactured by registered small-scale industrialists in the district.
Exhibits included ready-made garments, spices, sweets, kitchen utensils, coconut shell-based items, cane products, perfumes, cosmetic and beauty culture-related products, among a wide range of locally made goods.
During an inspection tour of the exhibition, the Deputy Minister interacted with several stallholders and inquired into their needs and challenges relating to their domestic industries. He paid particular attention to the financial difficulties faced by small-scale entrepreneurs and listened to their requests and proposals for assistance.
Kalutara District Secretary H.M.S.P. Herath, Kalutara Divisional Secretary K.T. Saranga Dheerarathna, Additional District Secretaries Samanthika P. Liyanage and Suranga Pradeep, and Assistant Director of the Kalutara District Small Scale Industry Development Unit, Yamuna Gurusinghe, also participated in the inspection tour.
The ‘Viyawasaya Super Fair – 2025’ was held on 22, 23 and 24 December, from 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. each day, with the aim of promoting small-scale industries and providing market access for local entrepreneurs in the Kalutara district.

Johnston’s son arrested by FCID
Johan Fernando, son of former Minister Johnston Fernando, was arrested yesterday (30) by the Financial Crimes Investigation Department (FCID).
According to police, the arrest follows investigations into several allegations, including the alleged misuse of a lorry belonging to Lanka Sathosa, and other vehicles.

Police launch probe into alleged assault by SJB Matugama PS Chairman
Chairman of the Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha, controlled by the SJB, has been accused of assaulting the Secretary of the same local authority, following a dispute over a council project.
The injured Secretary was admitted to the District Hospital in Weththewa, Matugama, for treatment, after sustaining injuries in the alleged incident, according to reports.
Police said the incident occurred yesterday morning (30) when the Chairman arrived at the Pradeshiya Sabha premises and an argument erupted between the two over a development project. The dispute reportedly escalated, resulting in the Chairman allegedly physically assaulting the Secretary.
The Secretary has since lodged a formal complaint with the Matugama Police.
Matugama Police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the alleged assault.
