Sajith asks govt. to compensate famers expeditiously

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa on Saturday asked the government to present the Farmers’ Compensation Bill to Parliament urgently.

Speaking at a ceremony held opposite the Parakrama Samudrya in Polonnaruwa to present his party’s manifesto for farmers, the Opposition Leader said the very same government that banned fertiliser imports and plunged the farmers into a catastrophe, had now taken action to import rice from China and India during the harvesting time here. “We demand that compensation be paid immediately to farmers who are in dire straits. We demand from the government that a proposal for that purpose should be presented to Parliament soon.”

Premadasa also said that SJB would unconditionally extend its fullest support in Parliament for allocating funds to pay compensation to farmers.
