Interpol issues Red Notices on 42 Lankan fugitives: IGP

Interpol had, in response to a request from the Sri Lanka Police, issued ‘Red Notices’ on 42 Sri Lankan criminals who had fled overseas, Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon said at an event in Colombo on Thursday.

Speaking at the opening of a new police checkpoint opposite the Colombo National Hospital, the Acting IGP said the aforesaid suspects were involved in the narcotic trade and other criminal activities.

IGP Tennakoon said he was confident that the criminals living abroad could be brought back to the country with the assistance of Interpol.

He said a leading member of a large gang in Sri Lanka Piyum Hasthika alias “Piyuma”, who was hiding in Dubai, had been extradited to Sri Lanka in the early hours of Thursday.
