The Inter-tropical Convergence Zone (where winds from the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere converge) affects the island’s weather.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central and Uva provinces during the morning.

Showers may occur in Southern and Western provinces and Puttalam district in the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur at most places of the island during the afternoon or night. Heavy rain fall about 100 mm is likely at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Eastern and North-central provinces.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Showers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night. A few showers may occur elsewhere. Fairly heavy showers  above 75 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Northwestern provinces and in Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya and Kandy districts.

Fairly strong winds of about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central, North-western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee district.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers
