Warm Weather Advisory
Issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology at 3.30 p.m. on 20 April 2025, valid for 21 April 2025.

Please be aware that the Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Northern, North-central, North-western, Western, Southern and Eastern provinces and in Ratnapura, Monaragala districts

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.

Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the table below and it has been  prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED

Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated. Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR 21 APRIL 2025 
Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 21 April 2025 by the Department of Meteorology

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Ampara district during the morning.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in Western and Northern provinces and in Galle, Matara and Puttalam districts in the morning  while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most parts of the island during the afternoon or night. Fairly heavy falls about 75 mm are likely at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Hambantota, Ampara and Polonnaruwa districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Showers may occur in Western province and in Galle, Matara and Puttalam districts in the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Eastern provinces and in Polonnaruwa, Hambantota and Mullaittivu districts during the afternoon or night. Fairly heavy falls about 50 mm are likely at some places in these areas.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
