Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 09 January 2023 by Department of Meteorology

Several spells of showers will occur in North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces and in Matale district.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts during the afternoon or night. Fairly heavy showers above 50mm can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa province and in Kaluthra and Galle districts.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Several spells of showers will occur in the Sabaragamuwa province and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. A few showers may occur in the Western and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m. Dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.

Strong winds about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, the North-central province and in Monaragala, Puttalam, Hambantota, Trincomalee and Mannar districts.
