Nihal Fonseka reappointed as a member of CBSL Monetary Board
Anthony Nihal Fonseka has been reappointed as a member of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) with effect from 27 July 2022 for a period of six years. Previously, he served on the Monetary Board from July, 2016 to May 2020 and from May 2022 to July 2022.
He obtained his BSc Degree from the University of Ceylon, Colombo and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, UK and a Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments, UK. He is a Senior Independent Director and Chairman of the Group Audit Committee of John Keells Holdings PLC, Chairman of Phoenix Industries Ltd., Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Brandix Lanka Ltd., Non-Executive Director and Chairman of Investment Committee of Phoenix Ventures Ltd..
A Banker by profession, Fonseka has held several key positions in the local and international banking and financial sector. He was the Chief Executive Officer of the DFCC Bank for over 13 years and prior to that was the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Sri Lanka for 10 years. He has also served as the Chairman of the Colombo Stock Exchange and the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and Pacific, Manila and as a director of Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, and DFCC Vardhana Bank PLC. He was the President of the Sri Lanka National Advisory Council of the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investments, UK for over 10 years and is a Member of the US-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission.
Fonseka has held many positions in the public sector as well. He was a member of the 2009 Presidential Commission on Taxation and a member of the National Procurement Commission established under the Constitution. He has served as a Director of the Credit Information Bureau and the Employees’ Trust Fund and has been the Co-Chairman of the national Council for Economic Development (NCED) – Capital Market Cluster.Fonseka has authored many articles and made many presentations at seminars and conferences locally and internationally.

PNS TAIMUR & ASLAT arrive in Colombo
The Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) TAIMUR and ASLAT arrived at the Port of Colombo on a goodwill visit on 12 Apr 26.
The visiting ships were welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in
compliance with naval traditions.
The duo of ships is commanded by Captain NIAMAT SAEED KHAN (PNS TAIMUR) and Captain NADIR MATEEN AFRIDI (PNS ASLAT).
Meanwhile, the ships are expected to conduct a Bilateral Naval Exercise LION STAR V with the Sri Lanka Navy in Colombo seas.

The Heat index, the temperature felt on the human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Eastern provinces and Monaragala district.
The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.

Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
