State Minister Chamara’s official vehicle catches fire

Primary Industries State Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanyake and his driver escaped unhurt when the official vehicle they were travelling in caught fire at Halpe, in Ella, in the early hours of yesterday.
As per the preliminary investigations, a technical defect had caused the fire.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. yesterday while the State Minister was travelling from Mahiyangana to Ella after attending several Sinhala and Tamil New Year festivities in those areas.
The Fire Department of the Bandarawela Municipal Council, along with the Ella Police and residents, extinguished the fire. The fire has damaged the front portion of the vehicle severely.
