Remandees stage rooftop protest at Bogambara demanding PCR tests

KANDY –

A group of remandees held at the former Bogambara prison staged a rooftop protest yesterday  demanding that they be subjected to PRC tests. The remandees, numbering about 20, said that they had been held for several days and, therefore, they should be tested for the virus.

Prison officials said those remand prisoners were due to undergo the PCR tests on May 22. 

Prison officers and police were guarding the prison premises at the time of going to press.The protest ended later in the evening.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural affairs to sign a cultural cooperation agreement between the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Maldives. (The draft agreement has received the clearance of the Attorney General and the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
