Lankan Election Commission named ‘Electoral Commission of the Year’

Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Rathnayake receiving the Electoral Commission of the Year Award 

The Election Commission of Sri Lanka (ECSL) has been named the Electoral Commission of the Year at the 2025 International Electoral Awards Ceremony held in Gaborone, Botswana, on Friday (October 3). The award was accepted by Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Rathnayake.

The annual awards recognise outstanding contributions to promoting democratic integrity and excellence in electoral management across the globe. In selecting the recipient, the awards committee considered the ECSL’s efforts to foster a community of responsible citizens among election practitioners and its commitment to advancing best practices, evidence-based research, and sound policy in the field of elections.

The Electoral Commission of the Year award honours a commission that has demonstrated exceptional performance amid these diverse challenges, reaffirming its commitment to upholding democratic values and strengthening electoral integrity.
