JVP blasts govt accusing it of resorting to underhand tactics to win presidential poll

JVP/NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that the upcoming presidential polls are set to break records, as the government is employing all possible means against opposition parties.

Addressing a national summit of paramedics at Galadari in Colombo on Sunday, Dissanayake emphasised that the forthcoming polls would go down in the record books as the largest media operation in the country’s electoral history. ‘The government is attempting to delay the elections while the people eagerly await their right to vote,’ he remarked. ‘They are pouring a massive sum of money into this election, planning to purchase election offices equipped with modern facilities and utilising sophisticated tools. Consequently, it is set to become the most expensive election ever in this country.’

Dissanayake also warned that the government might resort to employing underworld figures for its campaigning efforts, noting that politicians had nurtured, protected, and armed the underworld over the years.

He assured that a future NPP government would uphold the principle of equality before the law and create an environment where everyone can live peacefully without fear.

“The most important reserve of our country is the human resource. Our country has no future without developing this human resource. We are not a big, industrialised country and we are not a state with commercial resources like coal, gold, oil and gas,” he said.

Dissanayake said that under the leadership of his party, the youth would be provided with new economic opportunities for small and medium businesses.

He said that his party would take over power from the corrupt elite and hand it over to the modern generation of youth.
