Wakfs Board of Sri Lanka has asked mosques across the island to suspend Taraveeh, Jummah Prayers and congregational activities such as Bayan, Qiyamul lail, I’thikaf and Thowbah until further notice, given the rapid spread of COVID-19.

Wakfs Board also advised mosques to limit the fiv-time Jamath prayers to 25 people and to ensure that people wear face masks, maintain social distancing, carry their own prayer mat and to take ablution from home.

“All ablution areas in the mosques must be kept closed. All mosques in isolated/ restricted areas must be closed until further notice. All other health / security regulations must be strictly followed,” Wakfs Board said.

The Wakfs Board also said trustees and persons in charge of mosques can decide to close down mosques, if it is not possible and / or impractical to adhere to the above guidelines.
