Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MPs met German Ambassador to Sri Lanka Holger Seubert and his deputy on Wednesday (24) to discuss the issues faced by the Tamil people in the North and the East.
The TNA delegation told the German Ambassador that the government was postponing the provincial council elections and that the Tamils were not allowed to commemorate those who were killed during the war.
The TNA delegation spoke of the importance of Resolution 46/1, adopted on March 23, 2021 against Sri Lanka presented to the UNHRC by several Western nations including the UK, the need for repealing the Prevention of Terrorism Act, GSP Plus concessions, land issues and demographic challenges faced by the Tamils.
TNA MP Selvam Adaikalanathan said that they had also discussed the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. “The meeting was held in Colombo. We discussed the issues faced by the Tamil people and politicians. The economic and other issues faced by Sri Lanka, too, were discussed,” he said.
During the discussion, the importance of holding the Provincial Council election, after further strengthening the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, too, was discussed, Adaikalanathan said.
