A nine-year-old lioness named ‘Sheena’ gave birth to three cubs at the Ridiyagama Safari Park on Tuesday (17) night.
The curator of the park Assistant Director of Wildlife Hemantha Samarasekera said it was Sheena’s second litter and that she had delivered four cubs in 2017.
Sheena was brought from Germany to the Dehiwala Zoological Garden as a two-year-old cub and moved to the Ridiyagama Safari Park when she was four.
This is the fourth time the lionesses delivered cubs at the Ridiyagama Safari Park. A lioness named ‘Sahara’ had a litter of two cubs each in 2016 and 2018 and only one cub born in 2018 has survived.
