Showery condition in the Eastern and Uva provinces is expected to reduce today

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the morning.
Showery condition in the Eastern and Uva provinces is expected to reduce today and the next two days. A few showers will occur in Eastern province and in Matale district. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Western and Uva provinces and Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in Galle, Matara and Ratnapura districts.
Winds will be north-easterly and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Pottuvil to Galle via Hambantota.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Pottuvil to Galle via Hambantota can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be moderate but strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Eastern, Northern and North-central provinces and in Monaragala, Hambantota and Kurunegala districts
The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.
Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

The Inter-tropical Convergence Zone (where winds from the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere converge) further affects the island’s weather.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central and Uva provinces and in Ampara and Polonnaruwa districts during the morning.
Showers or thundershowers may occur in Western and Southern provinces and in Puttalam and Mannar districts in the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Uva, Eastern and North-central provinces after 1.00 p.m. Fairly heavy rain fall about 75 mm is likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places elsewhere of the island during the afternoon or night.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
