The Severe Cyclonic Storm “MICHAUNG” (PRONOUNCED AS “MIGJAUM”) over West-Central Bay of Bengal has crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast of India and this system is gradually weakening.

Misty Condition can be expected in Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the morning.

Showers will occur at times in Western, Southern and North western provinces, particularly during the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Eastern and Uva provinces after 02.00 p.m.

Winds will be South-westerly and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Mullaitivu via Mannar and Kankasanthurai and from Hambanthota to Pottuvil.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Mullaitivu via Mannar and Kankasanthurai and from Hambanthota to Pottuvil may be fairly rough at times but temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in  the Western, Sabaragamuwa and provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the early hours of the morning.

Showers will occur at times in the Central, Uva, Eastern provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa, Nuwara-Eliya, Matale and Polonnaruwa districts. Several spells of showers will occur in Northern province and in Anuradhapura district. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 p.m. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa province, Kaluthara, Galle and Matara districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The prevailing dry weather conditions are expected to change from tomorrow (12th).

Except for a few showers in the Ampara, Batticaloa, Monaragala and Hambantota districts, mainly fair weather will prevail over the island.
