Showers in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts
Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 24 July 2023 by the Department of Meteorology.
Several spells of showers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. A few showers may occur in the Northern Province.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night while mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere over the Island.
Winds will be south-westerly and speed will be (30-40) kmph. Fairly strong winds of about 40 kmph can be expected at times in western slopes of the central hills, Northern and North-Central provinces, and in Monaragala, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts..
Wind speed may increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai. Wind speed may increase up to 50kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Hambantota via Colombo, Galle and Matara.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Kankasanthurai, Mannar, Colombo, Galle and Hambanthota will be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island may be moderate.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thunder showers.

Several spells of showers will occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Hambantota districts after 2.00 p.m. Dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.
Fairly strong winds of about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the Central hills, the North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale districts.
