Showers in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts

Showers will occur at several places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.  A few showers may occur in the North-Western province.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.

Winds will be south-westerly and speed will be (25-35) kmph. Fairly strong winds about (40-45) kmph can be expected at times in western slopes of the central hills, Northern and North-Central provinces, and in Puttalam, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

Wind speed may increase up to (50-55) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar and sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil while wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar and sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times.  Sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle will be fairly rough at times. Other sea areas around the island will be moderate.

Increase of swell waves (about 2.5 – 3.0 m) can be expected in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle

Fairly strong winds about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-central, North-western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee district.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The rainy condition is expected to temporarily increase over the southwestern parts of the island from tonight (25 June) and during the next few days.

Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.
