Showers expected in Eastern, Central, North Central, Uva, Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts

Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 28 February 2024 by the Department of Meteorology

Several spells of showers will occur in Eastern, Uva and North central provinces and in Nuwara-Eliya and Matale districts.  Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Galle and Matara districts in the evening or night.

Winds will be north-easterly and wind speed will be (25-35) kmph. Fairly strong winds about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times in eastern slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central, North-western, Southern,Uva and Eastern provinces. Wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Hambantota via Trincomalee and Pottuvil and up to (50-55) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Hambantota via Matara.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Hambantota via Matara can be rough at times while the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Hambantota via Trincomalee and Pottuvil can be fairly rough at times. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR 11 APRIL 2025 

Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 11 April 2025 by the Department of Meteorology 

Several spells of showers may occur in Anuradhapura, Matale and Mannar districts while showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa districts during the afternoon or night.

Fairly heavy rainfall of above 50 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Fairly strong winds of (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over the  Western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
