Showers above 75mm in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces

As the prevailing showery condition in the southwestern part of the Island is likely to continue further due to active Southwest Monsoon conditions over the island, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75mm can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts during the evening or night.

The advisory for heavy rains for the Southern Province and Kalutara and Ratnapura districts issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology will be in force until 3.00pm today (04)

Winds will be south-westerly and wind speed will be (30-40) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil may be rough at times.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Showers may occur in Western, Southern and North-western coastal areas in the morning  while showers or thundershowers will occur at most places of the island during the afternoon or night. .Heavy rainfall of above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and North-central provinces.
