Showers above 75mm at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces

Showery condition in the South-western part of the island is expected to be enhanced during next few days from today (03).
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75mm can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere, particularly in Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night.
Winds will be south-westerly and wind speed will be (30-40) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil may be rough at times.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

According to the today’s latest weather analysis, the low-pressure area located northeast of Sri Lanka, still persists. The Department of Meteorology is continuously monitoring the behavior, development and path of the system.
Due to the influence of the above system, Showers or thundershowers will occur at times and cloudy skies are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Northern provinces and in Anuradhapura, Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy showers about 75 mm are likely at some places in these areas. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 1.00 pm.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The low-pressure area located northeast of Sri Lanka, still persists. This system is expected to move away from Sri Lanka during the next 36 hours.
Cloudy skies are expected over most parts of the island.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Northern provinces and in Anuradhapura, Galle and Matara districts. Very heavy showers about 150mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces. Heavy showers above 100mm are likely at some places in Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 1.00 pm.
