Showers above 75mm at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces

Showery condition in the South-western part of the island is expected to be enhanced during next few days from today (03).

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75mm can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces.  Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere, particularly in Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night.

Winds will be south-westerly and wind speed will be (30-40) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil may be rough at times.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Rainy weather is expected over Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces and in Hambantota district, from tonight (24) for the next few days.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

Showers will occur in Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces and in Hambantota district in the night while showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts in the evening or night.

Fairly strong winds of (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over Northern, Eastern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Matale and Hambantota districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Galle, Matara, Kaluthara and Rathnapura districts in the evening or night. Mainly dry weather will prevail elsewhere over the island.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS
[Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 23 February 2025]

Mainly fair weather will prevail over the sea areas around the island.

Winds will be north-easterly and speed will be (20-30) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Mannar via Puttalam  and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Negombo to Mannar via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota can be fairly rough at times. Other sea areas around the island will be slight.
