The depression over the island has moved away from the country yesterday (02) night as a low-pressure area. Thus, it is expected that its impact on the Island’s weather will lessen from today.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Northern, Eastern and Uva provinces and in Polonnaruwa district.

Sowers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere during the afternoon or night.

A few showers are likely in the Southern Province in the morning too.

Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, Uva and Southern provinces.

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant while engaging in marine activities in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Matara via Mannar, Puttalam and Colombo.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in these areas. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.

Fairly strong winds about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills the Northern, North-central, North-western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee district.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
