Prevailing showery condition over the south western parts of the island is expected to continue.
Showers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa province and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western province and in Galle and Matara districts. Few showers are likely in the Northern province.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.
Winds will be south-westerly and speed will be (30-40) kmph. Fairly strong winds about (40-45) kmph can be expected at times in western slopes of the central hills, North-Central province and in Puttalam, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
Wind speed may increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Kankasanthurai, Mannar, Colombo, Galle and Hambanthota.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambanthota will be rough at times. The sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Mannar via Kankasanthurai will be fairly rough at times.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers

The low pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression over the central–southwest Bay of Bengal by today morning. The system was located about 500 km southeast of Batticaloa at around 0230 this morning.The system is expected to further develop and move closer to the east coast of the island.
Cloudy skies are expected over most parts of the island due to the influence of this system.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Central and Uva provinces and in Hambantota district and at several places elsewhere of the island during the evening or night. Showers or thundershowers may occur over the coastal areas of Western and North-western provinces during the morning too.
Very heavy showers above 150 mm are likely at some places in Eastern province. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Northern, North-central, Central and Uva provinces and in Hambantota district.
Fairly strong winds of about (35-45) kmph can be expected at times over Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces and in Hambantota district.
Winds will be north-easterly in direction in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be (40-50) kmph and can increase up to (60-70) kmph at times in the sea areas around the island.
The sea areas around the island will be rough to very rough at times. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Warning for low pressure area over South-East Bay of Bengal Issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 04.00 p.m. on 24th November 2024 for the period until 04.00 p.m. 25th November 2024 for the land and the deep and shallow sea areas around the island

Very heavy showers above 150 mm are likely at some places in Eastern province and heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Northern, North-central, Central and Uva provinces and in Hambantota district due to the influence of the aforementioned system.

For Sea Area
The deep and shallow sea areas off the coasts extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Pottuvil will be very rough to high as the wind speed can be increased up to (60-70) kmph at times. Very heavy showers or thundershowers are likely in these areas.
Action suggested for the Sea area:
Naval and fishing communities are warned not to venture to the sea areas off the coasts extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Pottuvil, from 24th November, until further notice.
Requested to be attentive about future advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.

General public is requested to be vigilant regarding impending extreme weather situation from November 24th to November 26th.
