Sakura Products & Exports wins Gold at National Business Excellence Awards

Managing Director Manjula Janaki and Gamini Jayasinghe receive the award

Sakura Products & Exports (Pvt) Ltd. one of Sri Lanka’s leading companies in the field of sesame seed and allied confectionery was recently felicitated with the Gold Award in the small-scale category in the food and beverage and allied products category at the 2022 National Business Excellence Awards, organised by the National Chamber of Commerce (NCE).

Managing Director Manjula Janaki and Gamini Jayasinghe received the award during a grand ceremony held at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall under the patronage of the French Ambassador to Sri Lanka Eric Lavertu. The company which started off as Sakura Productions in 2007, has conquered the market with the increase of their sesame-based products. The business operates from Pitakanda, a very rural area in Kolonna, and today it is a leading manufacturer of refined sesame rice.

Many high-end hotels and bakeries in Sri Lanka use Sakura Sesame products due to their high quality and the fact that they were produced without the use of any chemicals. Sakura Products & Exports, which supports local agriculture has created a direct market for a large number of local sesame farmers.”We operate the business from a rural village which is 38 kilometers away from Embilipitiya town. We still do not have three-phase electricity required to operate the machines properly.

However, we challenged the challenges and emerged victorious while contributing to bring in foreign exchange to the country,” MD Manjula Janaki said.

HNB Assurance Group achieves strong financial performance in 2024

HNB Assurance Group (HNBA and HNBGI) has once again delivered impressive financial results for the year 2024, continuing its remarkable growth trajectory. The Group reported a 21% increase in Gross Written Premium (GWP), rising from Rs. 18.8 billion to Rs. 22.7 billion. Additionally, the Group recorded a consolidated Profit After Tax (PAT) exceeding Rs. 1.8 billion, marking a 7% growth compared to the previous year.

HNBA’s strong financial position was further highlighted by its upgraded Fitch rating, making it the only life insurer in Sri Lanka with an ‘A’ rating. HNBGI also earned an ‘A’ rating, positioning it among Sri Lanka’s leading general insurers.

Commenting on the achievements, Chairman Stuart Chapman expressed pride in the Group’s consistent growth, with a 22% average annual increase in GWP over the past four years. He also noted the 42% growth in share price by the end of 2024, reflecting market trust in HNBA’s stability.

CEO of HNBA, Lasitha Wimalaratne, highlighted significant milestones, including a 7.5% market share and a 27% growth in New Business Premiums. CEO of HNBGI, Sithumina Jayasundara, praised the company’s resilience, reporting a 59% increase in Profit After Tax and exceptional growth in non-motor insurance segments.

Overall, HNBA Group’s performance underscores its strong market presence and commitment to sustainable growth.
