Russian Embassy in Colombo on media reports about fighting in Kursk region

The Russian Embassy in Colombo said that various interested parties were misrepresneting facts about the situation in the Kursk region.
The following is the text of the Embassy statement issued on Monday (19): “The Embassy paid attention to some recent materials in Sri Lankan mass media which wrongfully depict the situation in the Kursk region tending at the same time to justify the Ukrainian troops’ actions. In their authors’ opinion the invasion of the territory of the Russian Federation is “going on successfully while the Kiev regime combatants’ morale is on the rise”. Since the situation is quite the opposite, the following figures and statements by Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova are offered for the Sri Lankan public attention to shed light on what is actually happening on the Russian border and what are the true goals of a new Zelensky bloody misadventure.
The criminal and illegitimate Zelensky regime continues to reveal its pure neo-Nazi nature to the world. In light of the situation in Donbas, which is a failure for the Ukrainian armed forces, the Ukrainian authorities have launched a terrorist attack on the border areas of the Kursk Region. Kiev openly stated that this action was intended to improve their negotiating position in the long term, as unashamedly admitted by Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, on August 8.
According to incoming reports, the Kiev regime has launched preparations for an attack targeting the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant.
Russia calls on international organizations, especially the United Nations and the IAEA, to immediately condemn the provocations by the Kiev regime and take action to prevent any threat that would compromise nuclear safety and security of the Kursk NPP, which could lead to a major man-made disaster in Europe.
As for the allegedly “successful” nature of the Ukrainian escapade, one should pay attention to the Russian Ministry of Defence data. According to them, as of August 18 Kiev has lost in the Kursk operation 3460 personnel, 50 tanks, 25 infantry fighting vehicles, 45 armored personnel carriers, 262 armored vehicles and 115 regular vehicles. Several antiaircraft missile systems and multiple launch rocket systems were destroyed as well.
The firefights continue, the tension persists. In the last 24 hours the Russian military repelled the attacks by four Ukrainian brigades. However, the situation is far from being in favour of Kiev. Regardless of the enemies’ expectations, the Russian people morale and unity were rather fortified than undermined. And, as President Vladimir Putin said on August 12, Russia does not hold negotiations with those who strike peaceful population and civil objects without distinction and threaten nuclear security.”
