President orders setting – up of mobile service to vaccinate those confined to their homes

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had yesterday ordered that a mobile vaccination programme be launched to inoculate people confined to their homes due to various reasons, the President’s Media Division said.

Health official have been directed to identify those confined to their homes, and seek the assistance of the Medical Officers of Health and the Public Health Inspectors in this regard.

The instructions were given during a meeting with the COVID-19 Prevention Committee on Vaccination.

The committee members agreed with the directive stating that almost all deaths due to COVID-19 were those who had not obtained the COVID-19 vaccine.

President Rajapaksa said public awareness of the vaccination drive needed to be raised and people should be encouraged to receive the jab.

Ministers Prasanna Ranatunga and Rohitha Abeygunawardena said those above the age of 30 in the Gampaha and Kalutara Districts could be vaccinated with the next few days.

The vaccination of those working in investment promotion zones and tourism zones had reached 90%, the PMD said.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has said any person employed in any sector should be able to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine.

Issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology at 3.30 p.m. on 10 March 2026, valid for 11 March 2026.

The public are warned that  the Heat index, the temperature felt on the human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at
some places in the  Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and in Monaragala district.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.


Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
