PM says no need to hike price of gas during festive season

There was no need to increase the price of gas during the festive season, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday addressing a meeting at the Temple Trees.

The Prime Minister added that there was no gas shortage in the country.

Earlier, during the meeting Minister of Trade, Bandula Gunawardane said that gas companies were asking for a price hike as supply chains had been affected by COVID-19. Minister Gunawardane also spoke about the increase in essential items.

The Prime Minister said that apart from essential food items, the price of gas too should be controlled for the sake of the consumer.
