PM asks where today’s protesters were when forests were destroyed under former govt.

People who are vociferous in their protests now were conspicuous by their absence when deforestation was continuing on a big scale during the previous government, says Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
“There are some people who are instigating these protests because of their hostility towards the government. They have created imaginary problems to mislead the people”, the premier told The Sunday Island.
Even if a tree on a private property is felled, they label it “deforestation” and make a big noise. They are trying to popularize their political parties they represent by shouting themselves hoarse about imaginary destruction of Sri Lanka’s forest cover.
“Their objective is to create more problems in the country and bask in the chaos”, the Prime Minister asserted.
