Part of Kandy market closed after detection of coronavirus case

The Kandy Municipal Council yesterday closed a section of the Kandy central market after a vegetable seller tested positive for COVID-19. Following this detection, everyone in the particular section was subjected to PCR tests.

It was also found that three persons attached to the cleaning division of the Municipality, residing at the Mahaiyawa housing scheme, had tested positive for COVID-19. Mayor Kesara D. Senanayake decided to isolate the section of the housing scheme where infections were detected. Other members of the cleaning division were subjected to PCR tests.

Thelambugahawatta and Bulugohotenna villages in Akurana had been isolated following the detection of five COVID-19 cases in the two villages, Kandy District Secretary Chandana Tennakoon said yesterday.
