One of country’s pioneers in Scuba Diving and Ocean Tourism dead

One of the pioneers in Scuba Diving and Ocean Tourism in the country Lakshman Muthukuda passed away yesterday. He was 70 years of age at the time of demise. Muthukuda was a key member of the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). The country’s most senior diver and instructor was considered the best for beginners to do their different courses related to scuba diving.

With more than 50 years of Diving experience Muthukuda had trained thousands of foreign and local enthusiasts in scuba diving in the sea beds of Sri Lanka. He used to be a trainer and chief instructor for SF Diving School.

A trainer of students until his death, he himself was a student of Sri Lanka’s legendary diving pioneer late Rodney Jonklaas, who worked with Sir Arthur C Clarke. During his early 60s, Muthukuda wrote the first ever book on Scuba Diving in Sinhala.

The funeral will be held today (3rd). His remains lie at his home at 43/2, Pragathi Mawatha, Batawala, Padukka.
