Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday told The Island that the government would take all necessary action to curb drugs and underworld activities in the country.

Police had been asked to arrest anyone involved in drugs and crime. Following the election of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa a number of steps had been taken to eradicate the drug menace and those efforts further strengthened by the two-thirds majority the SLPP had received, the PM said.

A number of underworld leaders had been arrested while they were attempting to flee the country, Rajapaksa said. “This shows how scared they are.”
