Nayaka Thero’s 50th birthday marked by ordination ceremony
Arrangements have been made to ordain two boys in commemoration of the 50th birthday of Venerable Ambaliyadde Sangharatana Nayaka Thero, at a ceremony scheduled to be held today (15) at the Sri Bharathi Kusumachethiyarama Pirivena, Peradeniya.
Venerable Ambaliyadde Sangharatana Nayaka Thero is the Principal of Panideniya Sri Bharathi Vidyayathana, the District Sangha Supervisor of the Northern Sangha Council of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya, Chief Prelate of the Sri Bharathi Kusumachethiyarama Moolika Pirivena, and a recipient of the Sasana Seva Vibhushana honour, as well as a scholar and Pandit.
The two boys to be ordained are Heman Sankalpa Ranawira of Unantanna, Hanguranketha, and Pamindu Bhanuka Wijerathna of Embilipitiya.
Heman Sankalpa Ranawira, born on May 16, 2013, is the second son of Kekulandara Mudiyanselage Gedera Wijerathna Banda and Hewage Sumithra Jayanthi, residents of No. 23, Unantenna, Hanguranketha.
Pamindu Bhanuka Wijerathna, born on May 17, 2013, is the second son of Ranawira Kankanamge Chaminda Kumara and Chamila Niroshani, residents of Embilipitiya.
Following the ordination ceremony, an alms were offered to (dana ) to 59 monks A series of religious observances are scheduled to be held within the premises of the Kusumachethiyarama Pirivena to mark the event.

PSC appointed to report on election laws, barring those governing PC polls
A 12-member Parliamentary Select Committee has been appointed to review and report on election laws, with the exception of provisions governing Provincial Council polls.
Announcing the move in Parliament yesterday (05), Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne said the Committee would undertake a comprehensive examination of the existing electoral legal framework and submit its findings to the House.
The Committee is also mandated to propose recommendations aimed at enhancing transparency and strengthening the integrity of the electoral system.
Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government Dr. A.H.M.H. Abayarathna has been appointed Chairman of the Committee.
The other members are Upali Pannilage, Muneer Mulaffer, Sunil Watagala, Ravi Karunanayake, J. C. Alawathuwala, Harshana Rajakaruna, Kathiravelu Shanmugam Kugathasan, Ruwanthilaka Jayakody, Thushari Jayasinghe, Mayilvaganam Jegatheeswaran and Chandima Hettiarachchi.

Ex-local govt. member, wife arrested over swindling foreign job seekers
The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), recently arrested a former SLPP member of Hanguranketha Pradeshiya Sabha and his wife for swindling several persons seeking job opportunities in Romania.
Sources said that the SLBFE had received 16 complaints against the suspects. According to the complaints, the couple collected Rs 21.3 mn promising them jobs in the construction sector in Romania. They were arrested while hiding in the Kadugannawa area.

INS Sindhukesari arrives in Colombo
INS Sindhukesari, a submarine serving in the Indian Navy, arrived at the port of Colombo on 03 May 26 to undertake Operational Turnarounds.
The visiting submarine was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in precision with naval traditions.
Throughout its stay in the island, the submarine’s crew is scheduled to participate in a variety of programmes organized by the Sri Lanka Navy, including visits to several tourist attractions in Sri Lanka.
