Navy Christian Council commemoration

The Navy Christian Council organised a Christian commemoration and thanksgiving service at St. Lucia’s Cathedral, Kotahena, on 23 November to coincide with the series of religious events being held in view of the 71st anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy. The Christian commemoration and thanksgiving service was conducted by Auxiliary Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Anton Ranjith and was presided over by Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

During the event, blessings were invoked on fallen and disabled naval war heroes, naval personnel, both serving and retired,as well as their family members.

The proceedings were organised, adhering to COVID-19 protocols. President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), Chandima Ulugetenne, Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Y.N. Jayarathne, Area Commanders, Executive Committee members of the NSVU, Director Generals, President Navy Christian Council, Commodore Prasantha Anthony, a group of officers attached to the Navy Headquarters and Western Naval Command attended the occasion.

Earlier, the ‘Kanchuka Puja’ and Naval Flag Blessing events were held at Ruwanweli Seya and the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi, in Anuradhapura, on 11 and 12 November.
