MP Jayasekera’s murder appeal on Nov. 08, 25 and 26

The arguments in respect of the application of appeal, filed by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Ratnapura District lawmaker, Premalal Jayasekera and two other convicted persons, will be next called before the Court of Appeal on November 8, 25, and 26.

These three applicants were convicted by the High Court of Ratnapura of murder and unlawful assembly, committed on January 15, 2015, prior to the Presidential Poll of that year. One person was killed and several others were injured at this unlawful event.

The other convicts are Nilantha Jayasinghe and Vajira Dharshana de Silva. All three of them including Premlal Jayasekera are in prison. Jayasekera is brought to Parliament, to attend sittings under the supervision of Prison Officers.

A previous Court of Appeal ruling granted him permission to attend Parliament, looked over by prison guards.

President’s Counsel, Nalin Laduwahetty appeared for accused appellant Premalal Jayasekera.

President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratne appeared for accused appellant Nilantha Jayasinghe. President’s Counsel U. R. de Silva appeared for accused appellant Vajira Dharshana de Silva.

The Court of Appeal Bench comprised Justice Nishshanka Bandula Karunaratne and Justice Ratnapriya Gurusinghe.
