Iran warns Israel, US of ‘severe response’ in case of retaliation
Iran has warned Israel of a larger attack on its territory should it retaliate against Tehran’s overnight drone and missile attacks, adding that the United States should not back an Israeli military action.
“If the Zionist regime [Israel] or its supporters demonstrate reckless behaviour, they will receive a decisive and much stronger response,” Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi said in a statement on Sunday.
Raisi’s statement follows a similar warning by Iranian military chief, Major-General Mohammad Bagheri, who told state TV that a “much larger” response awaits Israel “if it retaliates against Iran”. Bagheri said the Iranian attack on Israel “has achieved all its goals, and in our view the operation has ended, and we do not intend to continue”.
Earlier on Sunday, he warned the US that any backing of Israeli retaliation would result in its bases being targeted by Iran.
The commander of the Islamic Revolutionary guard Corps (IRGC), Hossein Salami, also warned that Tehran would retaliate against any Israeli attacks on its interests, officials or citizens. “From now on, whenever Israel attacks Iranian interests… we will attack from Iran.”
Meanwhile, Iran’s permanent mission to the United Nations justified Tehran’s response to Israeli “aggression” as a “legitimate defence” in accordance with the UN charter.

The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has announced that deposits from political parties and independent groups intending to contest 336 local authorities the forthcoming LA Election will be accepted from today 3rd March 2025 up to 12noon on 19th March 2025. Deposits will not be accepted on Saturdays, Sundays and Poya day which fall within this period.
Nominations will be accepted by the respective Returning Officers between 08:30 am and 04:15 pm from the 17th and will close at 1200 noon on 20th March 2025.
The train schedule on the Colombo – Batticaloa line has been revised to avoid trains running into wild elephants which cross the track.

Train number 6075 ‘Pulasthi’ will depart Colombo Fort at 03:15 pm and reach Batticaloa at 12:03am the following day
Train number 6079 “Meenagaya’ will depart Colombo Fort at 09:00 pm and reach Batticaloa at 08:28am the following day
Batticaloa to Colombo Fort:
Train number 6012 ‘Udayadevi’ will leave Batticaloa at 06:10 am and reach Colombo Fort at 02:53pm
Train number 6076 ‘Pulasthi’ will leave Batticaloa at 01:30 am and reach Colombo Fort at 10:10 am
Train number 6080 ‘Meenagaya’ will leave Batticaloa at 06:15 pm and reach Colombo Fort at 03:30 am the following day
