Interrogation of Ganemulla Sanjeewa yields firearms
Police, who are questioning underworld leader Ganemulla Sanjeewa, have uncovered a hidden arms cache.A large number of policemen and STF commandos are deployed at the Weeragula Police station, where the underworld leader is being held.
Sanjeewa’s cell in under 24 hour CCTV surveillance and he is only given food tested by the police. Weeragula police are also transferring people they have arrested to Yakkala police, fearing members of other underworld gangs may try to kill Sanjeewa.
The STF, on Wednesday night, arrested a young woman working for an underworld leader called Kalana, an associate of the Ganemulla Sanjeewa.The 27-year-old woman, whose alias is Ima, was arrested at Kurukulawa, Ragama.
The STF also found 5.49 grams of crystal methamphetamine on the suspect at the time of arrest.She was also complicit in two shooting incidents at Dunumala and Negombo on 14 July and 12 August, respectively, police said.The suspect has been handed over to Ragama police for further investigations.
