India helps undergrads in North and East with financial grants

Appreciating the special financial assistance scheme of the Government of India, one of the selected students from the Department of Geography, University of Jaffna said, “The monthly grant has been extremely useful in alleviating financial stress and allowing me to focus more on my studies. The financial assistance has enabled me to maintain consistent attendance and concentrate on my coursework without the added burden of financial constraints. It has significantly contributed to my academic performance and overall well-being.”
In another testimonial a student from Department of Political Science, University of Jaffna said, “This help is very useful. It was found to be able to cover the cost of monthly education. This grant helped me to purchase books for my education, expenses like photocopying and printing and also used for my food needs.” Another student pursuing Cultural Tourism in the Faculty of Arts appreciated the assistance for enabling field work and research.
These students were selected this year for the special financial assistance scheme launched by the Government of India for 100 students from economically weaker families in University of Jaffna and 100 students from economically weaker families in Eastern University. This scheme offering monthly grant assistance for a whole year is one amongst the several scholarship schemes offered by the Government of India, an Indian High Commission news release said.
India offers about 710 scholarship slots annually to Sri Lankan students, of which over 200 are fully funded ones covering full tuition, a monthly sustenance allowance, grants for books and stationery, accommodation, and travel expenses. The scholarships cover undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral studies in diverse fields ranging from Engineering to Humanities, Science, Agriculture, Traditional Medicine studies, the release added.

Discussions between Sri Lankan and Indian delegations at the presidential secretariat

Following the conclusion of bilateral discussions between President Anura Kumara Disanayake and Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, official-level talks between the delegations of Sri Lanka and India commenced this morning (05) at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
Representing the Government of Sri Lanka were Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath; Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Anil Jayantha; Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake; Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe, along with other senior officials.
The Indian delegation included Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and His Excellency Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, along with several other senior officials of the Government of India.

Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who arrived in Sri Lanka on the invitation of President Anura Kumara Disanayake on Friday [04] night, visited the Presidential Secretariat this morning (05).
The Indian Prime Minister was warmly welcomed by President Anura Kumara Disanayake upon his arrival at the Presidential Secretariat.
Prime Minister Modi is currently on a state visit to Sri Lanka, reaffirming the theme “Friendship of Centuries — Commitment to a Prosperous Future” which symbolises the longstanding ties between Sri Lanka and India. The Indian Premier is scheduled to remain in the country until tomorrow (06).
