GR gets Thai visa for 90 days
Thailand has granted former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa a visa for 90 days, according to diplomatic sources.
He is scheduled to travel to Thailand from Singapore, shortly.

Fort Magistrate extends Sally detention, asks CID to inform court of progress into Easter Sunday investigations on 20 May
The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday (22) ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to report on May 20 the progress of the investigations into the arrested suspects, including the former Director of the State Intelligence Service, Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay, over the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
Suresh Sallay was produced before the court when the case was taken up. The court directed that Sallay who served as Director, Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI) from 2012 to 2016 remain in detention.

Ex-MP Jayasekera granted bail, passport impounded
Nuwara Eliya Magistrate Pushpika Jayadasa yesterday (22) granted bail to former parliamentarian Premalal Jayasekera produced before her for allegedly threatening a person with a firearm.
Nuwara Eliya police arrested him on Tuesday.
The Magistrate granted Jayasekara Rs. 25,000 cash bail and two surety bails amounting to Rs. 1 million.
The Magistrate ordered that the case be recalled again on 14 September.
She also directed that the firearm in question be retained in court custody and impounded his passport.
According to police, the incident had occurred following a heated argument between the former MP—who had arrived in Nuwara Eliya with his family members—and a group of individuals who had travelled from Avissawella on an excursion.
Police further revealed that the firearm in the suspect’s possession had been issued under a license granted by the Ministry of Defence, which had expired in 2025.

Bogus Wing Commander arrested masquerading as PM’s secretary’s husband
A person who masqueraded as husband of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya’s private secretary has been arrested. Police said that the 40-year-old suspect who identified himself as a Wing Commander of the Air Force and claimed to have participated in parachute jumps on the independence day was apprehended after principal of a Colombo school alerted the Prime Minister’s Office of the suspect offering his two government houses to facilitate the admission of two students.
Police said that the suspect had served a five year prison term for preparing fraudulent documents and in addition to that there were six other cases against him.
