Chief Government Whip, Minister Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday (21) sought to ridicule the recent assurance given by the JVP/JJB to Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, that it will probe the Easter Sunday attacks properly after winning the next presidential election.

Urban Development and Housing Minister Ranatunga said so at Kelaniya in response to media queries following a public event there.

The Gampaha District MP asked how the JVP could give such assurance after having accommodated the father of two Easter Sunday suicide bombers in its National List for the 2015 General Election.

Declaring that the JVP had never explained how the father of the suicide bombers ended up on its National List, Minister Ranatunga said that the Catholic community would never vote for that party.

Minister Ranatunga said that the suicide bombers’ father received bail and the JVP could ask him to explain as to why his own carried out such a dastardly attack. There was no need for fresh investigations, Minister Ranatunga said, urging the JVP to come out clean on the issue at hand (SF)
