Wijeyadasa free to function as party Chairman

Kaduwela District Court Judge Dulani Wickremasuriya yesterday (13) issued a directive allowing newly-elected SLFP Chairman, Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, PC, and Acting General Secretary, Keerthi Udawatte, to function without hindrance. The judge issued an enjoining order prohibiting other factions of the party from preventing them from carrying out their duties and functions.

The order was issued after considering a petition filed with the Kaduwela District Court by two SLFP Executive Committee members, Isuru Abeywardena and Sumith Wijayamuni de Zoysa, naming 20 Executive Committee members as respondents.

They moved the Kaduwela Court one day after Maithripala Sirisena resigned as SLFP Chairman to pave the way for Rajapakshe’s elevation to that post. Over the past several weeks, different courts have issued directives in respect of petitions filed by the warring factions.
