COPE takes up issues pertaining to Lakvijaya power station today

The COPE (Committee on Public Enterprises) would take up several issues pertaining to the Lakvijaya power station and its environmental impact, today (24), parliament sources said.
The senior officials of the Lakvijaya Power Station have been summoned to the parliament complex to respond to queries from COPE members.
COPE Chairman Prof. Charitha Herath said that the COPE would meet for eight days throughout the 2021 Budget Debate.
The committee meetings would be held on Nov 24, 26 and on Dec 03, 04, 08 and 09, he said, adding that the health guidelines would be adhered to strictly.
The Environmental Audit Report on water pollution in the Kelani River is scheduled to be discussed on Nov 26.
Issues related to foreign employment are scheduled to be taken up on Dec 03. A controversy surrounding the procurement process as regards lottery tickets in 2016 is scheduled to be discussed on Dec 04. The role played by the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (pvt) Ltd., relating to the digitalization of public service will be taken up on Dec 08 while the performance of the Paddy Marketing Board is scheduled to be discussed on Dec 09.
