CIPM SL triumphs with dual honours at South Asian Business Excellence Awards 2021
CIPM Sri Lanka triumphed with dual awards at the South Asian Business Excellence Awards 2021 held recently in recognition of its exceptional work and results gained as trailblazers in the sector, and in addition for playing a vital role, demonstrating resilience and ingenuity in supporting South Asia’s recovery from the pandemic, said a release.
It said: CIPM Sri Lanka received two awards – for the Best Product Development – the ‘Chartered Qualification in Human Resource Management (CQHRM) programme’ and the Best Online Event 2021 in the Social Media and Digital category, organizing the ‘CIPM International Research Symposium’. Both honours recognize CIPM Sri Lanka’s continuous and unwavering commitment towards the highest standards of corporate governance and human resource education in Sri Lanka. The Awards, organized as a gala event, was majestically held at the Monarch Imperial Hotel and graced by former President Maithripala Sirisena, Ministers Mahinda Amaraweera and Dayasiri Jayasekara as chief guests. Based on a stringent and meticulous evaluation process, an expert panel of professionals and academics selected this year’s winners in the awards categories.
Representing CIPM at the celebrations were Jayantha Amarasinghe, President, Ken Vijayakumar, Vice President, Priyankara Seneviratne, Secretary, Prof. Prasadini Gamage, Council Member, U.A.C. Obeyesekere, CEO, G. Weerathunge, Director Professional and Academic Affairs, Anushka Earskin, Head of Business School, Indika Wijayasriwardana, Head of Shared Services, and Ruwani Senevirathne, Manager Quality Assurance and Compliance. The South Asian Business Excellence Awards was introduced to acknowledge and reward the exceptional work and the results gained by the trailblazers of the corporate domain in the face of an ever-increasing competitive market. The 2021 Awards celebrated heroic businesses in the Covid era and individuals who have overcome unprecedented challenges through change and growth.
CIPM was founded in 1959 and was subsequently incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1976. Chartered Qualification in HRM (CQHRM) of CIPM is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) UK. CIPM is affiliated with the Asia Pacific Foundation of Human Resource Management and the World Federation of People Management Associations. CIPM, being a professional institute, is also a constituent member of the Organization of Professional Associations (OPA) in Sri Lanka. CIPM comprises over 1200 Professional Members who serve both public and private organizations. On Sept 28,2018 CIPM was elevated to Chartered Status by the Parliament of Sri Lanka, amending the original Act of establishment.

Cabinet approves recognition of ‘Sri Lanka National Export Development Plan – 2026–2030’
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the resolution furnished by the Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development to recognize the “Sri Lanka National Export
Development Plan – 2026–2030” as the official strategic framework for export development and promotion of exports in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka Export Development Board, in collaboration with public and private sector stakeholders connected to the export sector, has formulated the National Export Development Plan 2026–2030 by obtaining technical assistance under the Policy-Based Lending Programme of the Asian Development Bank.
The aforementioned Plan provides a comprehensive strategic framework to guide and monitor Sri Lanka’s export development process, with the target of earning US$ 36 billion in foreign exchange through the export of goods and services by the year 2030

Cabinet grants policy approval to amend the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, No. 9 of 2003
Approval has been granted by the Cabinet of Ministers on several earlier occasions to amend the Consumer Affairs Authority Act No. 9 of 2003.
In accordance with the approval granted at the Cabinet
meeting held on 2023-05-02, the Legal Draftsman is currently in the process of preparing the relevant amended Bill, and the Legal Draftsman has informed that it would be appropriate to obtain policy approval from the present Cabinet of Ministers for that purpose.
Accordingly, taking into consideration the necessity of restructuring the Consumer Affairs Authority too, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the resolution furnished by the Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative
Development to instruct the Legal Draftsman to expeditiously complete the preparation of the relevant Bill to enable the amendment of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, No. 9 of 2003.
