Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 18 April 2024 by the Department of Meteorology

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, North-western, Central, North-central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara and Mannar districts after 2.00 p.m..

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle in the evening or night.

Winds will be variable in direction and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph.

The sea areas around the island will be slight but strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Showers may occur in the Western province and Galle, Matara, Puttalam and Batticaloa districts in the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most parts of the island during the afternoon or night. Fairly heavy falls of about 50mm are likely at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces.
