36th Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s first Test on British soil

It’s been 36 years since Sri Lanka played their inaugural Test match in England. The game has many highlights from Sidath Wettimuny’s classy 190 to Amal Silva’s second innings hundred and Duleep Mendis nearly scoring twin hundreds.

In commemoration, The Island will feature over three successive days an account of the historic game from globally respected cricket columnist Rohan Wijeyaratne.

Rohan is a leading cricket writer much respected for his views on the game and he has a long association with this newspaper.
