The Convenor of the Jaffna Civil Society Centre Arun Siddarth together with a group of like-minded people commenced a walk from Dondra to Point Pedro yesterday (01) to promote racial harmony and national unity
Siddarth alleged that it was local politicians, foreign powers and a few overseasbased organisations that had created mistrust and division between Sinhalese and Tamils in the country. Naming a few of these foreign based organisations he said that the LTTE had plundered the Tamil people and Sri Lanka to fill their coffers.
He also alleged that one ruse to create mistrust was dissuading the Tamil youth from learning Sinhala.
Before leaving Matara Siddarth paid homage at the sacred Matara Bhodi, where Buddhist monks evoked the blessings of the triple gem upon him and others who accompanied him.
