Sri Lanka placed third at Gladiators World Youth Scrabble Championship

The Sri Lanka Youth Scrabble team was placed third at the recent Gladiators World Youth Scrabble Championship which was held as the first virtual youth cup.

Sri Lanka defeated Nepal, the US and Malaysia to qualify for the quarter-finals. At the quarter-finals they edged out Australia to secure a place in the semi-finals.

While the Thailand Youth team won the championship, Pakistan and Sri Lanka settled for the first and second runner up positions respectively. The top three teams were presented with US $ 1000.00, 700.00 and 400.00 respectively.

The Sri Lankan youth scrabble players were: Adeesha Dissanayake (Gateway College, Colombo), Nimuthu Witharana (Richmond College, Galle), Imeth de Silva (S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia), Sandali Vithanage (Musaeus College, Colombo), Sethmi Jayasinghe (Sacred Heart Convent, Galle), Nonithma Dharmadasa (Sacred Heart Convent, Galle), Sarindu Willaddarage (Richmond College, Galle – Reserve) and Dulandee Handapangoda (Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo – Reserve)
