Showers predicted in several provinces today (29th December)

WEATHER FORECAST FOR 29 DECEMBER 2025
Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 29 December 2025 by the Department of Meteorology 

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the early hours of the morning.

Showers will occur at times in the Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale, Nuwara-Eliya and Polonnaruwa districts. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in these areas. Several spells of showers will occur in Northern province and in Kandy, Anuradhapura and Trincomalee districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Sabaragamuwa province and in Galle, Matara and Kaluthara districts after 2.00 p.m.

Fairly strong winds of about 40 kmph can be expected at times over Eastern slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Hambantota, Monaragala and Trincomalee districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Ampara district during the early hours of the morning.

Showers are likely in coastal areas of the  Southern province and in Kaluthara and Colombo districts during the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, North-central and Eastern provinces and in Badulla, Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 pm. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa province and in Colombo, Kaluthara, Galle and Matara districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Sabaragamuwa, North-western provinces and in Colombo, Gampaha and Monaragala districts during the day time.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.

Effect of the heat index on the human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED

Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
