Showers expected in Western, North-western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts

Several spells of showers will occur in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. A few showers may occur in North-western province.

Strong winds of about 50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Monaragala and Hambantota districts. Fairly strong winds about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times elsewhere of the island.

Winds will be westerly to south-westerly in the sea areas and wind speed will be (30-40) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai via Mullaitivu and increase up to 60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil can be rough or very rough at times while the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai via Mullaitivu can be rough at times.

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive in this regard.

The low-level atmospheric disturbance is currently established to the southeast of the island.

Showers will occur at times in the  Eastern and Uva provinces and in Nuwara-Eliya, Matale, Polonnaruwa, and Mullaittivu districts. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Eastern province and in Nuwara-Eliya, Matale, Badulla, Polonnaruwa, and Mullaittivu districts.

Several spells of showers will occur in the Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m.

Strong winds up to 50 kmph can be expected at times over the  Eastern slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-central, North-western and Eastern provinces and in Hambantota, Gampaha, Colombo and Monaragala districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The low-level atmospheric disturbance located to the east of Sri Lanka continues to influence the island’s weather. Accordingly, showery condition is expected to enhance over the Northern,
Eastern, and Uva Provinces during the coming days from January 5th

Showers will occur at times in the Eastern and Uva provinces and in Polonnaruwa, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya district.
A few showers will occur in the Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kaluthara, Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m.

Strong winds up to 50 kmph can be expected at times over the  Eastern slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-central, North-western and Eastern provinces and in Hambantota, Gampaha, Colombo and Monaragala districts.

Due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance to the East of Sri Lanka, the prevailing showery condition is expected to continue in the Eastern, Northern, and Uva provinces during the coming
days,

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the  Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the early hours of the morning.

Showers will occur at times in the Eastern, Central, North-central and Uva provinces and in Hambantota district. Fairly heavy showers  about 75 mm are likely at some places in the  Eastern and Uva provinces and in Matale, Nuwara-Eliya and Polonnaruwa districts.

Several spells of showers will occur in the Northern province.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 p.m.

Fairly strong winds of about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over Eastern slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee,
