Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts

WEATHER FORECAST FOR 08 JUNE 2025
Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 08 June 2025  by the Department of Meteorology

Showery condition is expected to enhance in the southwestern part of the island from June 10th, with gusts of  strong wind over the island and in the sea areas around the island. The general public is requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.

Several spells of showers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts while showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Northern and Uva provinces and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts in during the afternoon or night.

Fairly strong winds of about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central, North-western and Southern provinces and in Trincomalee district.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Issued at 3.30 p.m. on 29 March 2026, valid for 30 March 2026.

The Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Eastern, North-western, Northern and North-central provinces and in Monaragala district.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.


Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

Misty conditions  can be expected at some places in the  Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the early hours of the morning.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Sabaragamuwa province and in Colombo, Kaluthara, Galle, and Matara districts after 2.00 pm.  Dry and warm weather will prevail over the other parts of the island.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
